I had this idea of getting from one stable triad (major or minor, excluding augmented and diminished) to another via two chords built from all the pitch classes that the triads don’t contain. Like fashioning stepping stones across a mountain stream, to get from one bank to the other, but from very particular materials. Though the triads may have common tones, all the remaining pitch classes are used only once. The game, as always, is to follow the rules, but to coax the result into feeling free, inevitable, and balanced. I.e., to (hopefully) summon the magic necessary to turn a limitation into an asset.
I rolled a twelve-sided die for the triad DOs, and flipped a coin for major (heads) or minor (tails).
I rolled/flipped for four pairs. Here’s what I got:
