Every song on my new album, Magnets In The Mist, is a haiku.

I did all the vocals in one session so that the settings, including on a pedal I was singing through, were the same throughout. I wanted the things that stayed the same on the album to be as uniform as possible, so as to create the highest possible contrast for the things that change.

When I was singing the second song, “All,” I misread a word. I didn’t notice until listening back to the finished album the next day. It would’ve been difficult to go in and change it, to approximate the pedal settings (I used the pedal for something else after) and levels—at least for me with my funny, highly-limited recording setup. I decided to leave the error, that those were the lyrics now.

It was:

“All”

All the land in time
Scuttles out the window frame
No more to be seen

It is:

“All”

All the land in time
Scuttles but the window frame
No more to be seen

What did it mean before? What does it mean now?

Usually, in my experience, a mistake will instantly make sense. This one might, but I can’t tell how yet. The fact of the error, though, and the way my mind is still working on it—I love it. 💕
